About me
If you are someone who generally enjoys life, but who is still searching for that elusive change in career or lifestyle that would make you truly happy, let me reassure you that I have been there.
After a false start working as a solicitor in a large commercial London law firm, I realised that I wanted to do something that made a direct and tangible difference to people's lives. This led me to work in the voluntary sector for eight years, in fundraising, marketing and project management roles, most recently at the British Red Cross. I enjoyed working for charities, but was always frustrated that my head office roles rarely allowed me to witness in any personal way the difference the organisation was making.
After many years of self doubt and half hearted attempts at change, I finally took the actions needed to clarify what I really wanted and to work towards achieving it. I understood that what I wanted was simply for us all to make the most of our lives. In particular – because it takes up such a large amount of our time – to do this by finding work that we love to do.
I therefore trained as a coach with Coach U, the world’s largest coaching training organisation, and became an accredited practitioner for the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® Step 1 and 2 and the FIRO-B® psychometric instruments. I also fulfilled a long held desire to live for a period of time overseas by moving to Beijing with my young daughter Elsa. I now write a monthly column Me, Myself and Elsa for That's Beijing, about our experiences of life in China.
These days, I derive great satisfaction from being able to support other people seeking more fulfilling careers or personal lives.
So I encourage you to persevere in pursuit of your dreams. You can make them happen!
